About Course
This course provides a broad introduction to business in Canada and the economic and environmental forces influencing the nature of organizations.
- It provides a background to the development of business activity and identifies trends in Canada and globally.
- Students will examine the social, economic, technological and political/legal elements of the environment.
- They will also examine the purposes and activities of organizations of various types, sizes and structures.
- Emphasis will be placed on identifying the internal functions of business and the themes of technology, information, e-business, and globalization.
- Students will apply these theories and concepts to analyze Canadian business trends and assess future career opportunities.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated the ability to:
- Identify and describe segments of Canadian industry to determine career possibilities and opportunities.
- Identify and relate important ethical issues faced in making business decisions in the current economy.
- Relate historical and economic factors in the development of business to the current objectives, functions and organization of business activity in Canada.
- Demonstrate how the business environment impacts on daily lives by summarizing and synthesizing relevant information in written reports assigned.
- Demonstrate how the roles of management, marketing, accounting and finance, operations, human resource management and information services in an organization support the overall objectives of the organization.
- Apply contemporary theories about business practices to scenarios involving administration, marketing, operations and financial functions.
